Automatic Equipment Identification Systems

A railroad's ability to function profitably centers on its ability to identify and dispatch its cars efficiently. Automatic Equipment Identification Systems use specially coded transponders which are attached to the rail cars and a system of "reader" antenna strategically positioned along the railway's right of way. As the transponder equipped cars pass the antenna, the car information is transmitted back to railroad's central computer, providing real time location of each tagged car.
